About the Artist

World champion decoy Carver Michael R. Braun is one of the country’s fastest growing and most favorited waterfowl artists in the Country. His passion for decoy carving and painting started at the age of nine when he carved his first decoy - side by side with his father, Ed. Growing up, Michael's passion for the outdoors grew as he began to hunt and fish. Being out in nature heavily influenced his artistic talents. This led him to go on and earn a scholarship to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. During this time Michael studied Illustration and Design, starting his artistic career as a Commercial Illustrator and Designer. When Michael got the opportunity to Carve waterfowl full time, Michael took the chance to follow his dream! Today you can see Michael's Passion come to life with every Piece of work he produces. From service grade decoys to decorative works of art, Michael's love for waterfowl grows in every piece he completes. On April 27th 2024 Michael's Dream to become a world champion came true. In 2009 Michael sought out this title for the first time at the Ward Worlds Wildfowl Carving Competition held every spring in Ocean City Maryland. His entry of Rosy-Billed Pochards was awarded second best of show in the World Shooting Rig division. For fifteen years Michael put his work up against the best in the Country, a long struggle that he says helped shape him into the artist that he has now Become. His winning entry featuring a King Eider pair and a single Common Eider x King Eider hybrid took Michael's talent to a level needed to win a world title.
